Monitoring at plastic industries from Thursday

KATHMANDU: The Department of Environment has finally decided to monitor plastic industries in the Kathmandu Valley as an effort to ban production and use of plastic bags weighing less than 30 micron.

The Department made such a decision after its earlier efforts of monitoring and seizing plastic bags from wholesale and retail shops failed.

Deputy Director at the Department, Surendra Subedi, said the industries producing the plastic bags of less than 30 micron would be brought to book, as the government has already banned the production of such bags.

"We learnt that there are more than 40 plastic industries in the Kathmandu Valley alone. So, we're beginning the monitoring at such industries and recommend the Ministry of Environment for action to the industries if found flouting the government decision," he added.
