NHRC tells govt to save Dr Govinda KC's life

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission on Monday urged the government to save the life of Dr Govinda KC by addressing his demands through talks.

Dr KC has been staging a fast-unto-death at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for past 16 days, putting forth various demands for what he called reforms in Nepal's medical education sector.

Issuing a press statement today, the constitutional rights watchdog reminded the government that it should be sensitive towards protecting one's life notwithstanding the form of protest.

Expressing serious concerns towards repeated strikes of Dr KC and the government's apathy to meet his demands and implement past pacts signed with him, the Commission said it was closely monitoring the health status of Dr KC.

Meanwhile, the Commission also wrote to the Ministry of Health on Sunday to pay attention to his health, the statement signed by the Commission spokesperson and member Mohna Ansari informed.
