National unity must for statute implementation, says Dahal

KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has underscored the need of national unity for implementation of the new Constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly.

Addressing an interaction on 'Constitution of Nepal and Challenges in Implementation' organised by the party's Central Committee here today, Dahal said whatever force worked to jeopardise the Constitution was not successful.

"After not becoming successful in foiling the Constitution making, this invisible force is now engaged in the game of preventing the formation of a national unity government. There is a need of unity among the major political parties, at least until some new laws for implementation of the Constitutions are formulated," he said.

He clarified that his party would not claim the posts of the President and the Prime Minister both.

The UCPN-Maoist Chairman also stressed on addressing the Madhes problems by amending the Constitution as the charter could always be improved upon with amendments.

Party Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the promulgation of the Constitution was a historical achievement and an important event.

The provision in the Constitution about an independent foreign policy is positive, he said.

The agenda of any community cannot be accommodated 100 per cent in the Constitution since it is a document of compromise.
