NBA concerned about PHC indecision

Kathmandu, July 31

Nepal Bar Association today said its serious attention had been drawn towards the indecision of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee regarding chief justice nominee Dipak Raj Joshee.

Issuing a statement, the association said it was also minutely studying news reports that Acting Chief Justice Joshee had been as asked to resign and if he failed to do so the committee would reject his nomination by two-thirds majority.

“Nepal Bar Association has concluded that the committee’s indecision despite Joshee furnishing his clarifications to questions raised during the hearing will not only invite constitutional and legal complications, but also gives a sense that the free, capable and answerable judiciary was being controlled and directed,” read the statement.

Nepal Bar Association  requested for an early completion of the hearing in line with the principle of separation of powers. It also requested the press to adopt sensitivity while disseminating information.
