Nepali Congress in no hurry to join govt: Singh

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh said his party was not in a hurry to join the government.

Speaking in a New Year greetings exchange and calendar unveiling programme organised by the NC Constituency-7 committee here today, he said the NC's joining the government was only a propaganda spread by the ruling parties and the NC could carry out works for the people and the country sitting in the opposition also.

Leader Singh, who is also the former Deputy Prime Minister, said that although the erstwhile NC-led government had wanted to conduct the local body elections, it could not be done so for due lack of political consensus.

"The local bodies' election should be held as early as possible now," he added.

Saying it was not always necessary to link the party only to power, leader Singh urged the party cadres to realise the role it has played in the development of the democratic system in the country.

He also instructed the party cadres to get down to work to implement the policies and programmes endorsed by the party's national convention from the Ward level itself.
