Nepal Students Union holds general convention after 9 yrs
KATHMANDU: The 11th national general convention of the Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students Union (NSU) has kicked off in the Capital today.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba opened the three-day gala held after nine years amidst a special ceremony in Bhrikutimandap.
The general convention of the student wing of the country's oldest and largest political party could not be held since the reunion of party's two factions-- establishment side and Deuba-led Nepali Congress ( Democratic) around nine years ago.
Around 34,000 representatives from across the country are taking part in the general convention, according to NSU spokesperson UP Lamichhane.
NC leader Ramchandra Paudel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi, NC Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak, NC former general secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, party Central Working Committee members, leaders of party's sister organisations and well wishers have wished for the success of the event.
The convention would conclude on Tuesday electing its new leadership.
