NHRC urges PM to 'take meaningful initiatives' to end crisis

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urged Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to take meaningful initiatives to solve the current political crisis.

The NHRC Chairman Anup Raj Sharma and members duo Prakash Wasti and Sudeep Pathak went to the Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar today and expressed their concerns over latest political developments, current protests in the Tarai-Madhes region including situations of human rights, peace and order there.

In response, the Prime Minister said he was working to solve the ongoing problems through dialogues, according to a press statement issued by the NHRC Acting Secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai after the meeting.

"The Prime Minister said that all problems could be solved through cooperation, unity and teamwork," PM's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari said after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the NHRC delegation also apprised the Prime Minister of its observations in protests ongoing at various parts of the nation, according to PM's press coordinator Adhikari.
