Norway, UK congratulate PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Norway and the United Kingdom have extended hearty congratulations to CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli for being elected as the 38th Prime Minister of Nepal.

"The election of a new Prime Minister and a new Government after the promulgation of Constitution is a manifestation of Nepal’s commitment to democratic development, peace and prosperity," the Royal Norwegian Embassy here stated in a press release today.

Norway encourages the new leadership to ensure a peaceful and inclusive implementation of the Constitution to secure Nepal’s future social and economic development and needed reconstruction efforts, the statement read.

Meanwhile, the UK Minister of State for Asia, Hugo Swire, congratulated PM Oli on behalf of the British government.

“On behalf of the British Government, I send my congratulations to Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli for being elected as the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The United Kingdom and Nepal share 200 years of friendship and we will remain a steadfast partner for Nepal as it continues to rebuild following the April 25 devastating earthquake. I look forward to working with Oli and the new government,” the UK Minister of State Swire stated in a statement released by the British Embassy here today.
