One arrested for snatching gold chain from Maitidevi

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested a man on the charge of stealing a gold chain, from Maitidevi of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31.

The arrestee has been identified as Yashif Sheikh (24) of Jhunkhunuwa in Yamunamai Rural Municipality-5 of Rautahat district, currently residing in Maitidevi.

A team deployed from Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku, arrested Sheikh after Yamuka Rai (21), a permanent resident of Katari Municipality-3 of Udayapur district, currently residing in Purano Baneshwor Height filed a report when a gold chain was snatched from her neck.

Police, after a detailed investigation, charged Sheikh for his alleged involvement in snatching Rai's gold chain with gold locket weighing one and half tola at 11:20 am on Sunday, April 29, near Seto Pul.

Police seized a broken gold chain weighing one tola and 31 lal, scooter (Ba 65 Pa 4745), Sheikh's citizenship, and his driving licence from his possession.

Meanwhile, Sheikh has been sent to Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for further action.

Recently, MPCD has been investigating increasing cases of snatching using motorcycle and scooters in various parts of Kathmandu Valley.
