PABSON general convention

Kathmandu, February 20

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the 13th general convention of Private and Boarding School Organisation of Nepal that kicked off in Kathmandu from today.

A total of 1,850 representatives participated in the convention organised at City Hall, Kamaladi, today.

According to PABSON, the general convention will elect a new chairman for a tenure of two years.

Tikaram Puri of CPN-UML and Bijaya Sambahamphe of CPN-Maoist Centre are competing for the chairmanship.

For the Puri-led panel, Suman Gopal Acharya has given his candidacy for senior vice-chair, and Hira Chand and Ishwor Gurung are the vice-chair candidates from the open quota. Similarly, Gopal Acharya has declared his candidacy for the post of general secretary.

For the Sambahamphe-led panel, Dk Dhungana has announced his candidacy for the post of senior vice-chair, Krishna Adhikari and Ashis Shrestha for vice-chair, and Rajendra Baniya for the post of general secretary.

Puri is the principal of the Biratnagar-based Everest Higher Secondary School, whereas Sambahamphe is the senior vice-chair of the incumbent PABSON committee. More than 250 candidates are in the fray for 67 posts.

Out of around 10,000 private schools throughout the country, more than 6,500 schools are under the umbrella of PABSON.

PABSON has its branches in 72 of the 75 districts of the country.
