PABSON, NPABSON offices padlocked

Kathmandu, April 27

A group of students affiliated to varius student unions today locked up the offices of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal and National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal’s  offices protesting the organisations’ passive attitude towards fee hike by private boarding schools.

Nepal Student Union, All Nepal National Free Student Union, All Nepal National Free Student Union-Revolutionary, among others, have been protesting since Tuesday against the fee hike in violation of the standard fees determined by the government. The student unions had also written to the education ministry, but have not got a response yet.

Cadres and leaders of these unions went into the office of PABSON in Dilli Bazaar and NPABSON’s in Kupandole and padlocked the offices. The aim is to bring those schools charging exorbitant fees to book, said ANNFSU Chair Nabina Lama.

The agitating unions have demanded that private schools revoke the existing fee structures.

PABSON, which has offices across 73 districts, and NPABSON with offices in 40 districts, are responsible for regulating private schools across the country.

PABSON Secretary-General Rajendra Baniya urged the government to intervene so that the organisations can resume their work. The unions had padlocked more than 100 private schools in Kathmandu Valley yesterday to protest the fee hike.
