Panchthar witnesses rise in crime

The number of criminal cases increased in Panchthar district in the last fiscal compared to the previous fiscal.

As per District Police Office, Panchthar, a total of 148 cases of crimes were registered at the office in the fiscal 2015-16, while the number was 213 in the previous fiscal.

Four murder cases were reported at the office in the fiscal 2015/16, while a total of 11 such cases were registered in the fiscal 2016-17. According to the DPO, the number of attempted murder cases has dropped by 50 per cent, from eight to four during the period.

Likewise, a total of 22 people had lost their lives in various accidents in the fiscal 2015-16 while the number was 33 in the last fiscal. However, the number of suicide cases went up from 25 to 49 during the period. Of the total people who killed themselves, 44 committed suicide by hanging while five others took their lives by consuming poison.

Similarly, a total of 10 theft cases were reported and six other cases, one each related to gambling, human trafficking, drug abuse, arson and arms and ammunition were lodged at the DPO.

A total of 42 public offense cases were registered in the fiscal 2015-16 while the number was 60 in the previous fiscal. Likewise, 11 cases related with rape, five with attempted rape and two with paedophilia were also reported.
