KATHMANDU: Senior-most Justice at the Supreme Court, Gopal Prasad Parajuli has taken up the responsibility of Acting Chief Justice following Chief Justice Sushila Karki's automatic suspension after an impeachment motion was filed against her at the Parliament on Sunday.

After assuming the office this evening, Parajuli, who was at loggerheads with Karki, dubbed the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice a tragic incident.

According to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti, he pledged to bear the responsibilities as per the Constitution and laws . He committed to work impartially and efficiently, and stand in favour of truth.

Lawmakers of the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist have accused Karki of interfering with the government and partiality while delivering justice.
