PM to write second letter to agitating groups

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of four major political parties on Sunday decided that Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will write a letter again to disgruntled political parties and groups for talks.

After various groups including Madhes-centric parties and those demanding a separate Tharuhat region staged violent protests in various parts of the nation against the proposed demarcation of federal units, the Prime Minister had sent them an invite for talks a few days ago.

The United Democratic Madhesi Front and the Tharuhat/Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee, two major agitating groups, on Saturday had responded to the invite and demanded that their conditions be met for the talks.

The four major parties - Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN-Maoist and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic - had held a meeting to discuss next steps following the response, on Sunday.

The meeting decided that all the conditions they put forth could be discussed in the talks, according to UCPN-M Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who was present in the meeting.

So,  the Prime Minister will write to them again for the talks, he added.

Meanwhile, the parties also decided not to halt the constitution drafting process for talks.
