Police seize vehicles ferrying fuel to Valley

Kathmandu, November 26

Police today took under control at least 14 vehicles ferrying petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas, saying the fuel they were carrying was meant to sold on the black market.

Superintendent of Police Bishwo Raj Pokharel, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, said on-duty cops stationed at entry point of the capital seized 14 vehicles, including microbus, van and jeep, for transporting petrol, diesel and kerosene, and half-filled Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinders.

“We confiscated 15,980 litres of diesel, 7,502 litres of petrol, 2,573 litres of kerosene and 37 units of LPG cylinders from the vehicles,” he said. However, the vehicles were released on condition thatthey would not transport fuel to Kathmandu again. Rampant transport of fuel has given rise to black-marketing in the Kathmandu Valley.

SP Pokharel said police will not allow anyone to transport petroleum products as such activities had led to rise in black-marketing of fuel in the capital.
