Police still clueless about ‘kidnapped’ boy

Kathmandu, October 4

Police said they had yet to receive any missing complaint from the parents or guardians of the boy who was reportedly kidnapped from Gothatar yesterday.

Security personnel from Metropolitan Police Crime Division, metropolitan police ranges and all sectors of Kathmandu valley were mobilised after police control room (100) was alerted by an unidentified person. According to police, eyewitness said three masked persons forced the boy into a car and fled the scene.

The child reportedly appeared to be below 10 years of age and was screaming.

However, police have yet to ascertain the identity of the child. Deputy Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati told THT that no one had approached the police with missing complaint and there was no ground to establish it as a kidnapping. “We reached the reported incident site and talked to eyewitness, besides analysing CCTV footage. Even the eyewitness and the one who called the police helpline were not sure about the kidnapping,” he informed.

Three persons were buying something in a local shop when a child crossing a road was caught and pulled into a vehicle. At that time, the child cried and the bystanders suspected it to be a kidnapping case, according to DSP Bogati.
