Property crimes surge in Sankhu, giving sleepless nights to cops

KATHMANDU: Since last week, robbery cases in various parts of Sankhu, an ancient town in the Capital, has gone up.Police in the area are tensed due to the surge.

Local vendor Binod Shrestha claimed his shop was burgled and property worth Rs 100,000 including 15 packets of cigarettes were stolen on August 27.In the same night, a gang of thieves had stolen a 32-inch LED TV, a bottle of whisky worth Rs 40,000 from Hakaju Restaurant at Dhuwatole in Sankhu.

On last Monday, two computers were reported to be stolen from the Office of Sankarapur Municipality, which was located just 50 meteres away police station.Likewise on Thursday, a TV set was found missing from the house of Prakash Syangbo.

Police have intensified the search operation, but to no avail.

To address an increase in property crimes, police have tightened security arrangements in the area and have placed many checkpoints in various parts from 8 pm till 4 am. They had also mobilised the petrol team.

ASI Hari Khadka of Metropolitan Police Sector, Sankhu, said local and police were working together to curb crimes in the area. He asked locals to be more vigilant in the nights.
