Public space management a tough job, says Minister Khadka

KATHMANDU: Minister for Urban Development Narayan Khadka has said that management of the public spaces has become a tough job due to people's migration to urban areas in the recent time.

At a programme organised today on the occasion of the World Habitat Day, Minister Khadka said that management of the public places was becoming more difficult due to establishment of temporary settlements and shops in the public locations with rapid population growth.

He was of the view that people could be provided with settlement areas in the time of disasters if public sites were conserved.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry Shambhu KC, Deputy Director General of Urban Development and Building Construction Rabi Shah and others expressed their opinions on the occasion.

This year's World Habitat Day is being marked with the theme of 'Public Spaces for All'.

The government has identified altogether 83 public spaces in Kathmandu Valley.
