Paudel, Shrestha meet Thakur in consensus bid

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Nepali Congress, the CPN Maoist Centre and the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) held a meeting in Bhaktapur today.

NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN MC Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and TMDP Chairman Mahantha Thakur met at the latter's residence in Sanothimi in Bhaktapur.

In the meeting, the three leaders discussed ways of removing the deadlock over the issue of Constitution amendment.

Talking to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti after the meeting, TMDP Chairman Thakur said the discussion among them centred on initiatives to seek a way out of the current imbroglio. He added that they held discussions on whether to withdraw the constitution amendment proposal or go for the process by revising it.

The meeting among the three leaders takes place just before a joint meeting of the seven major political parties that the Speaker Onsari Gharti has called for today in a bid to forge consensus among the parties.
