Realtor Lama arrested for investigation

Kathmandu, July 15

Police have nabbed Karma Lama, the realtor who erected a seven-feet tall retaining wall that collapsed and killed two school girls in Taukhel of Godavari Municipality on July 1.

Lama of Timalbesi, Kavre, had been on the run after the wall that he built illegally collapsed and fell on Grade III and Grade VIII classrooms of Pushpanjali Secondary School, killing Kripa Rai (9) and Anjana Pun Magar (10), and injuring 25 others.

DSP Ishwar Karki at the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur said Lama was arrested from a hospital yesterday. He was in the hospital for medical checkup.

“We have begun further investigation into the incident,” he informed.

Lama was found to have plotted the land without obtaining approval from the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, municipality and any other concerned authorities.

The report has also recommended to the government to cause Lama to pay cash relief to the kin of the deceased and other injured and bear the medical expenses of the injured students.
