Renowned neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota no more

 

 

 

 

 

KATHMANDU: Renowned neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota, who was suffering from Bile Duct Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma), has passed away at Neuro Hospital in Bansbari, this evening. He was 64.

Dr Devkota passed away around 5:35 pm this evening, according to the hospital source.

His mortal remains will be kept at the hospital premises from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm tomorrow for final tributes. From there, Dr Devkota's body would be taken to Pashupati Aryaghat via Narayan Gopal Chok, before electronic cremation.

Earlier, Dr Devkota had served as the Health Minister during the active regime of the then King Gyanendra Shah. Born on December 18, 1953, in Pandit Gaun, Liglig of Gorkha district, Devkota was a distinguished neurosurgeon and an illustrious scientist, who founded National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences (Neuro Hospital).

He is survived by his spouse Dr Madhu Dixit Devkota, and his three daughters Medha, Vasudha and Manjari, who will perform his last rites.
