Human rights activists today staged a demonstration against violence inflicted on Rohingya Muslims by the Myanmar government, in front of the Myanmar embassy, Lalitpur.

“We urge the Myanmar government to take back their citizens and demand that action be taken against those who forced them to leave their country,” he further said, adding, Rohingya Muslims have been entering Nepal since 2012. Nearly 400 Rohingya have been living in Nepal as refugees.”

Speaking to The Himalayan Times on telephone, Mohammad Shahid, 20, a Rohigya refugee, said he left his country a year ago abandoning his family and property. He said, “I was studying in Grade VIII. I lost my family and I am not aware of their whereabouts. I miss my studies and my parents. If I get favorable condition to go back to my country, I’ll return to my country as soon as possible.” He entered Nepal through India.

The number of Rohingya seems to be increasing. There are nearly 500 Rohingya in the camp located in Ram Mandir, Kapan. Rohingyas living here for more than one year have been protected by the UN and it has provided them refugee identity cards but the new comers are not provided with cards.
