Riverbanks to have more green parks

KATHMANDU: The High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilisation is all set to establish 20 new parks along the banks of the Bagmati River.

Over 45 stakeholders, including those from the local level, have joined hands with HPCIDBC to establish parks on the banks of the Bagmati River in three years.

Ramdayal Prasad Yadav, a plantation expert at HPCIDBC, said 19 stakeholders have already started their work.

“The stakeholders have already agreed to construct green parks on over 100 ropani of land on the banks of the river. Eight parks have already been built between Jorpati and Guheshwori — namely Children’s Park, Utsav Park, Memorial Park , Unique Fountain Park, Smriti Park and Sakura Park — and two green parks have been developed by the Armed Police Force and Community Policing Service Center,” said Yadav. Green parks will also be constructed on the riverbanks between Tilganga bridge and Thapathali bridge to maintain balanced ecosystem.

According to estimates, Rs 45 million is needed to develop green parks on the riverbanks.

Each stakeholder is preparing the designs with particular names as per the agreement.

Aesthetic plants, ornamental flowers, ever green trees, fruit trees, decorating grasses will beautify the Bagmati riverbanks, said officials of HPCIDBC.
