RPP to host reception on Prithvi Jayanti

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) would host a reception on coming January 11 (Poush 27) as per the Nepali calendar on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal.

The reception would be held at Bhrikutimandap, the party said.

A poetry symposium and a colloquium have also been scheduled for the day of Prithvi Jayanati, besides the reception.

The Prime Minister, ministers, political leaders, chiefs of constitutional bodies, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, incumbent and retired senior government officials have been invited to the reception, according to Rajaram Shrestha, a spokesperson for the party.

Around 15,000 guests have been invited to the ceremony, he added.

The party plans to mobilise around 2,000 party cadres to make the event successful.

The RPP-Nepal was hosting a reception on the occasion of the Prithvi Jayanti and National Unification Day for the past one decade and this is the first reception after the RPP and RPP-Nepal merged and became the RPP.

It is noted that the country used to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the first king of the Unified Nepal, on Push 27 every year at the National Unity Day until it became a republic in 2008.
