Scrub typhus-like disease reported in Kathmandu

The number of people suffering from illness with symptoms similar to scrub typhus are increasing at Sukraraj Tropical Infectious Disease Hospital.

Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, coordinator of clinical research unit at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, said two to three people in a week visit the hospital complaining of symptoms similar to scrub typhus.

“The disease has not been identified or given any name till date, but  such illness can be cured,” he said and added,“Physicians should prescribe medicine used for scrub typhus to patients with  symptoms of scrub typhus-like illness. As most of the doctors take these symptoms for typhoid, the lives of many patients are at risk,” he added.
