Deuba accuses govt of apathy about statute implementation

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday accused the incumbent government of being apathetic about implementing the Constitution.

Urging all to be alert to a conspiracy being hatched in the country against the implementation of Constitution, the former Prime Minister charged the government with a failure to foil such attempts and implement the Constitution effectively.

He also suggested making preparations to hold the elections to all the local, province and federal bodies within mid-December 2017.

"The government has not made any preparations for this so far," he said.

Deuba was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 3rd national general convention of the Nepal Civil Society in the Capital.

He said that his party could create an environment of consensus for the implementation of Constitution even while staying in opposition.

Meanwhile, Deuba said that he and his party were taking steps to sort out the Madhes issue.

In a different context, Deuba stressed the need for good governance, confidence and dignity, saying that the opposition party would play an important role in helping the incumbent government maintain check and balance.

On the occasion, ruling CPN-UML secretary Pradeep Gwayali stressed the need for consensus among major political parties for the implementation of Constitution.

Similarly, leader of the CPN Maoist Centre Krishna Bahadur Mahara was of the view that transitional period of the country would end only through the implementation of Constitution and that civil society should play an important to this effect.
