Stalled construction of Melamchi Project tunnel resumes

KATHMANDU: Construction of a tunnel for the Melamchi Drinking Water Project halted after the April 25 earthquake has resumed recently.

The Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee resumed the tunnel construction after the labourers have returned to the construction site after visiting their families in the wake of the devastating quake.

The Committee had been prodding the Italian Company Cooperativa Muratori Cementisti (CMC) Di Ravenna to continue construction so as to accelerate the project.

Currently, the tunnel construction is being carried at different three locations between Sundarijal of Kathmandu to Gyalthum of Sindhupalchok.

However, the construction pace is slow, said locals.
