Swarnim Wagle appointed NPC Vice Chairman

KATHMANDU: Economist Dr Swarnim Wagle has been appointed the Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission on Thursday.

A cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singhadarbar had appointed Wagle as the vice chairman this morning.

The post was lying vacant after the incumbent VC Min Bahadur Shrestha resigned from the position last week.

Wagle holds a PhD in Economics from the Australian National University in Australia and a post graduate degree in Master of Public Administration in International Development from Harvard University. He has also worked as a senior economist at the World Bank in Washington, USA.

Meanwhile, the meeting also promoted 11 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Nepal Police to the post of Additional Inspectors General (AIGs), said the Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet.

Bam Bahadur Bhandari, Jaya Bahadur Chand, Devendra Subedi, Pashupati Upadhyay, Keshari Raj Ghimire, Madhav Prasad Joshi, Bijay Lal Kayastha, Kamal Singh Bam, Mingmar Lama, Rana Bahadur Chand and Bijay Kumar Bhattarai were promoted to AIG, he added.
