Temporary teachers to continue protests

Kathmandu, October 25

Temporary Teachers Struggle Central Committee has decided to continue protest programmes during Tihar and Chhath too.

Nirendra Kunwar, president of TTSCC, today said the government had not addressed their demands despite continued peaceful protest, leaving them with no option but to continue their protests.

The temporary teachers have been staging a relay hunger strike at Maitighar since October 19.

The teachers have been demanding that all temporary teachers be given the opportunity to compete for permanent status. They have demanded the government add the total years of service as temporary teachers for retirement benefits after they get permanent status.

Temporary teachers have been opposing the eighth amendment to the Education Act, stating the act was amended without implementing the seventh amendment.

In the seventh amendment of the Education Act, the government had made the provision of gratuity to temporary teachers who fail to get permanent status. It had also made the provision of heath care for temporary teachers.
