Thousands walk along Bagmati as clean-up drive marks 200th week

KATHMANDU: Thousands of people participated in the march from Sundarijal to Chobhar along the Bagmati riverbank today on the occasion of the Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign reaching its 200th week.

The people’s participation in the march was huge despite the early morning rain.

Around 8,000 metric tonnes of garbage has been removed from the Bagmati River in the participation of some 1,600 organisations under the mega campaign so far.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang among other leaders as well as the Nepali Army, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force personnel, employees of different organisations, youths and general public took part in the event today.

Addressing the event, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi read out a 10-point commitment letter and said the every individual should continuously be engaged in cleaning one’s house, surroundings, offices, rivers and other public places.
