Time card system for goods-carrier vehicles in valley

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) is all set to bring time card system into operation for goods-carrying vehicles plying from Jagati of Bhaktapur to Koteshwar of Kathmandu, beginning July 17.

The MTPD is implementing the time card system in a bid to minimise increasing traffic accidents in Kathmandu Valley.

As per the time card system, goods-carrying vehicles like trucks, tippers, vans among others will have to maintain a speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour on the six-lane road from Jagati to Koteshwar.

Similarly, MTPD has also brought a plan according to which goods-carrying vehicles and public transport vehicles will be required to operate on the left lane while motorcycles, cars, taxis, tourist buses, and buses operated by diplomatic missions on the right lane of the road from Jagati to Koteshwar. This rule will come into effect from July 17.

The MTPD has also prohibited entry of trucks and tippers in Kathmandu Valley from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm for traffic management and safety purposes.

There are 3.08 million vehicles plying all over the country and 1.1 million vehicles operating in Kathmandu Valley alone at present.
