Tribute paid to to APJ Kalam

KATHMANDU, July 31

Nepal-India Friendship Society on Friday paid tribute to the late former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam at a programme. The former Indian president, known as the Missile Man of India, passed away on July 27 at the age of 83.

At the ceremony, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher JBR said former Indian president Kalam was successful in finding a space in the hearts of all people because he was always in search of knowledge.

Kathmandu University’s former vice-chancellor Suresh Raj Sharma reminded all of the address by Kalam during a convocation ceremony at the university in 2006. Former Nepali ambassador to India Lokraj Baral and Vice-chancellor at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Jivraj Pokharel, spoke of former Indian president Kalam’s contribution to India’s prosperity and progress.

Kalam, who came to be known as the ‘People’s President’, died after collapsing during a lecture at the IIM at Shillong in India. He was the 11th Indian president with the term from 2002 to 2007.
