UML Chairman Oli set to run for premiership with support from 15 parties

BHAKTAPUR: The CPN-UML said as many as 15 political parties including UCPN-Maoist have assured their support to its Chairman KP Sharma Oli in the prime ministerial election to be held on Sunday.

Leaders of various political parties on Friday gathered at Oli's residence in Balkot to discuss the agenda relating to the formation of a new government under his leadership.

The leaders have assembled at Oli's residence since this morning.

UML senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal commented that the meeting remained positive.

"The party held discussions with 10 fringe parties including Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN-ML, Janamorcha Nepal, UCPN-Maoist and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal.

Similarly, talking to media after the meeting, UCPN-M leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the party decided to support the UML to form a new government in accordance with the 16-point agreement which led to the drafting of the new Constitution.

He said the UCPN-M is holding talks with the Nepali Congress on the matters concerning formation of consensus government.

UML leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bidya Devi Bhandari and Agni Kharel, UCPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara and leader Giriraj Mani Pokharel had reached Balkot to discuss the agenda.
