Visiting BIMSTEC General Secretary Islam calls on Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu, June 1

Secretary General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation M Shahidul Islam paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar today.

On the occasion, Oli congratulated Islam on the assumption of office as the BIMSTEC secretary general.

“Prime Minister Oli highlighted the need to have concrete outcomes from the BIMSTEC process for the benefit of the peoples of the region. He stated that the upcoming fourth BIMSTEC Summit must assess its role of past 20 years and chart out the plan of action with time-bound targets for the future course of action in order to have positive impacts on the life of people,” a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The secretary general briefed about various activities of BIMSTEC and said that its secretariat was always willing to support the member states to make BIMSTEC a result-oriented and effective organisation. He expressed the readiness of the secretariat to assist the chair in convening the fourth BIMSTEC Summit in Kathmandu.
