Workshop discusses human trafficking situation in Nepal

KATHMANDU: A two-day national workshop on reintegration of trafficking survivors discussed human trafficking situation in Nepal.

The workshop which concluded on Thursday was jointly organised by the Women's Rehabilitation Center (WOREC) and the Shakti Samuha with support from the Global Alliance against Traffic in Women-International Secretariat (GAATW-IS).

According to a statement issued by the WOREC, the workshop was aimed to redefine the issue of reintegration.

On the first day of the programme, WOREC Chairperson Renu Rajbhandari presented a report on situation of the trafficked women reintegrated in 2013. The report explored positive as well as negative aspects of rehabilitation process carried out for quake survivors, according to the statement.

In the workshop, Bandana Pattnayak of the GAATW also informed participants about issues of migration and trafficking along with the existing international frameworks, the statement added.

Participants there discussed various approaches on how to make the reintegration process more effective and expressed their commitment for the same.

The statement also read that the feedback collected on the first day was shared whereas a presentation was also held on the second day of the workshop to discuss the existing policies and laws.
