YFN submits memo to youth minister

Kathmandu, November 28

Youth Federation Nepal, youth wing of CPN-UML, today submitted a 35-point memorandum to Minister for Youth and Sports Satya Narayan Mandal, demanding that the government address the issues of youth, who constitute 4.3 per cent of the country’s total population.

YFN Chairman Rajiv Pahari, on behalf of the organisation, read out and handed over the memorandum to the minister amid a function organised in the capital. The memo stressed the need for devising short-term and long-term policies as well as programmes to exploit the expertise and intellectual resources of youth and utilise them in nation building process.

Similarly, YFN demanded that the government ensure youth’s participation in policy-making on a range of issues, build a museum dedicated to youth who attained martyrdom in various democratic movements, provide 50 per cent concession to youth in health, education and entertainment sectors, and build five youth parks in the Kathmandu Valley.

In response, Minister Mandal pledged to gradually address the issues and concerns raided by YFN.

Establishment of a Sports University, a stadium in each electoral constituency, unemployment allowance, employment, participation of youth in productive sectors, mobilisation of youth in post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction works are among YFN’s other demands.
