KATHMANDU: Milan Thapa, Amar Shrestha and John Lama of Learning Realm International (LRI) won gold medals in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Inter-school Karate Tournament here on Thursday. Milan defeated Biplav Neupane of Gurukul in the 30kg kumite, Amar saw off Dhiren Gurung, also of Gurukul, in the 35kg kumite while John beat Anish Sunuwar of DAV in the finals. Angel Maharjan of LRI claimed the boys individual kata gold by seeing off Purneswor Shrestha of DAV in final. Organised by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trust and DAV Sushil Kedia Vishwa Bharati, the tournament offers 16 gold medals.

KATHMANDU: Little Angels’ (LA) School on Tuesday provided a financial assistance of Rs 189,100 to late volleyball player Prabesh Man Shrestha’s family. The teachers union of the school deposited the amount opening an account in the name of Shrestha’s daughters, Prisma and Pragya. The union will handover the bank documents to Shrestha’s family on Wednesday. The former international volleyball player Shrestha passed away on May 6 in a terrible road accident.

Western accumulated a total of 91 points — 71 in athletics and 20 in volleyball – to lift the overall championship.
