KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested Rabin Tamang (22) of Samaripul- 7, Makwanpur with stolen cash and valuables.
According to the police, he had barged into the house of Indralal Balami in Mahadevsthan and made off with Rs 25,000, a DVD player and three sets of mobile phones. He has been kept in the custody of Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka for further investigation.

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on Wednesday nabbed Rama Joshi (28) of Chagal, Kathmandu- 13.
She was absconding since the Kathmandu District Court slapped a fine of Rs 3,28,418 on her on a theft charge on November 23, 2009. She was handed over to the court for the execution of three-year-old verdict later in the day.

KATHMANDU: Two elderly people, including a woman, have been killed in separate road accidents in the Valley, reported the police.
Bhaicha Lakha (70) died after he was caught in-between a running truck (Na 4 Kha 2815) and a bus (Ba 1 Kha 6409) when they collided head-on in Nagkhel, Bhaktapur on Tuesday night. He was trying to cross the road when the incident occurred. The police have arrested the drivers and impounded the vehicles.
In a separate incident, Jamuna Aryal (60) of Goldhunga died after a motorcycle (Ba 45 Pa 932) hit her in Tinkune, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has said that political instability has created obstacles in nation's development process.
Speaking at an interaction here on Sunday, he said development process was hampered due to lack of good governance in all bodies because of the political crisis in the country.

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bharat Maitri Emergency & Trauma Centre under National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) of Bir Hospital is making internal preparations to bring Nepal Bharat Maitri Emergency & Trauma Centre into operation.
Such a preparation follows the direction a week ago by the Ministry of Health and Population to NAMS, entrusted with regulating the trauma centre. The ministry had warned that if NAMS bought more time to bring the centre into operation it will interfere into the matter.

KATHMANDU: The Judicial Council is learnt to have been working on a merit-based system, as envisaged by the interim constitution, as it prepares to appoint more than
two dozen judges in various courts.

KATHMANDU: The Department of Education has banned the use of mobile phones in classrooms up to Plus Two level.
DoE Under-secretary Ram Raj Khakurel today said mobile phones were banned in classrooms with a view of making teaching and learning activities effective.
Regional education directorates have already notified schools through district education offices after the DoE sent a circular to this effect.
“In the wake of increasing use of mobile phones among Plus Two students in classrooms, disturbing teaching activities, the DoE decided to ban its use,” explained Khakurel.

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Police Crime Division today arrested Kishor Kumar Magar, proprietor of Lalitpur-based Shilu Housing & Developers Pvt Ltd, on charge of defrauding a client.
According to police, Magar (40) had kept Anu Gurung’s house in Baluwatar as collateral to borrow Rs 10.4 million from a Putalisadak-based Kumari Bank when Gurung was out of town.
Earlier, Gurung had borrowed Rs 7 million from Magar by keeping the house, which was handed over by Shilu Housing, as collateral. “Magar outwitted Gurung when she was away and got the loan sanctioned,” said MPCD.
