Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider injured in Rautahat road mishap

RAUTAHAT: A person died and another sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding on lost control near Sakhuwa Chok along the Gaur-Chandranigahapur road section in Rautahat district on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as motorcyclist Sanjay Kumar Sah Rauniyar (22) of Jitpur Municipality-3 in Bara district and injured as the pillion rider Pawan Kumar Sah of Madhav Narayan Municipality-3 in Rautahat.

The incident occurred when the motorcycle (Na 51 Pa 9559) en route from Santapur to Gaur in Chandrapur Municipalit ran out of control and fell on the road killing its rider and injuring other one last night, according to the Garuda-based Area Police Office (APO).

Rauniyar who sustained critical injuries to his head and back was rushed to a health institution in Gaurda where he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment at 2:00 am today while the pillion rider has been undergoing the treatment, informed Inspector Govinda Thapa at the APO.

The preliminary investigation points to drink-driving and speeding as the cause of the accident. Police confirmed that the duo were travelling under influence of alcohol which they had consumed at the Kartikeshwar fair being held in Santapur.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
