UPDATE: 14 killed in Baglung jeep accident; 3 injured airlifted to Kathmandu

POKHARA: Fourteen persons lost their lives when the jeep they were travelling on fell below the road at Badigaad Rural Municipality of Baglung district, today.

Nine women, four men and one child are among the deceased, informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Dipak Regmi, Spokesperson at Gandaki Provincial Police Office, Pokhara.

Search for one of the passengers -- Dhan Bahadur Karki (65) of Ishma Rural Municipality-4 in Gulmi who went missing, possibly after being swept away by the river -- is going on.

Three others have sustained injuries and have been airlifted in a Nepal Army chopper to Kathmandu for treatment, said police.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 am when the jeep (Ga 1 Ja 5219) en route to Burtibang of Baglung from Gulmi district fell about 500 metres below the road into Badigaad river in Bhimgithe of Badigaad-7.

There were a total of 18 passengers travelling in the jeep. They were relatives who were headed for a family worship.
