15 get bail in case of mass cattle killing

District Court Surkhet today issued a directive to release 15 out of 18 persons, facing charge in connection with the mass killing of cattle, on bail.

A single bench of district judge Rajendra Kumar Acharya demanded a total bail amount of Rs 2,650,000 from the accused.

The court has demanded a bail amount of Rs 450,000 from Municipal Police In-charge Surya Bahadur Bogati of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City. The court has demanded Rs 3,50,000 from Santripta Shrestha of Carrier  Transport. Bail amount of Rs 2,50,000 and Rs 1,50,000 have been sought from ASI Bikash Gautam and Dharmendra Nepali, respectively.

The court has sought bail amount of two lakh rupees, each from police constables Subarna Tarami Magar, Chandra Bahadur Rana, Sushant Shahi and Kamal Bayak. It has sought bail amount of one lakh rupees each, from truck drivers Satrudhan Chaudhary, Him Bahadur GC, Damodar KC, Bibek Kuwar and Sagar Biswokarma. Helpers of the trucks Amrit Chaudhary and Krishna Bahadur KC were freed on general date, according to court staffer Bhupal Bhandari.

The court has decided not to proceed with the case against Banke Assistant Chief District Officer Krishnakant Upadhyay,  Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis Mayor Dhawal Shumsher Rana, Chief Administrative Officer  Hari Pyakurel and the District Coordination Committee Dailkeh Chief Prem Bahadur Thapa.

Truck drivers involved in the incident Sher Bahadur Mahat, Jit Bahadur BK and Kamal Nepal were at large.

Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City had sent 291 cows and oxen in eight trucks to Shirsthan in Dailekh on August 30.  Twenty-one cattle including cows, oxen, and claves were found dead in the forest of Katukuwa, Birendranagar-7. Six cows, three oxen, three male calves, and six female calves were found dead at Biureni forest of Birendranagar-11.
