2 killed, 33 injured in Makawanpur bus accident

KATHMANDU: At least two persons were killed and 33 others sustained injuries after a bus they were travelling on veered off the road and fell some 100 metres down in Khanigaun of Thaha Municipality-1 in Makawanpur district on Tuesday.

Makawanpur District Police Office identified the deceased as 35-year Kamala Dong of Goganeki and 30-year-old Kunsang Tamang of Dandabas in Kailash Rural Municipality in the district.

Among the causalities, one person died while undergoing treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Palung and other died on the way to Kathmandu, according to police.

DSP Bam Dev Gautam said the ill-fated bus (Na 4 Kha 4567) was heading to Kathmandu from Pakane of Kailash Rural Municipality in the district this afternoon.

Speaking to the THT Online over the phone, official at the Makawanpur District Police Office, 22 seriously injured persons have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the other victims are undergoing treatment at the Palung-based Primary Health Centre.

The reason behind the accident is yet to be known.
