2 protesters, a policeman injured in Nawalparasi clash

NAWALPARASI:  Two protesters and a policeman have been injured in a police firing when the protesters tried to defy a prohibitory order in Parasi of Nawalparasi on Wednesday.

They were injured during the police-protestor clash when the protesters tried to defy the order at Bal Govinda Petrol Pump along the Bhumahi-Bhairahawa road section of the district at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday.

Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Adhikari said,"Despite using tear gas and firing some rubber bullets, they went out of control.  So, we had to open fire."

"Our constable Rep Bahadur Rana has been injured in the clash," added Mainali.

Ram Naresh Dhobi (48) of Sanahi-9 and Munni Kalwar (50) of Ramgram Municipality-5 were injured on the protesters' side and are being treated at a health facility in Bhairahawa and Parasi-based Prithvi Chandra hospital respectively.

"Parasi area was tense for sometime due to clashes, but now the situation is under control. The local administration has issued prohibitory order in areas along the East-West Highway for a week, since Monday," said Mainali.

Similarly, the District Administration Office, Rupandehi informed that the prohibitory order will last till Sunday in Bhairahawa area.
