23 killed in 182 road accidents in a week across Nepal

KATHMANDU: As many as 23 people lost their lives in road accidents in the country during the week from August 18 to 25.

According to a Traffic Accident Statistics issued by Nepal Police, 46 persons were critically injured while 181 sustained minor injuries in the accidents.

Total 182 accidents were recorded during this period.

A total of 315 vehicles were involved in the mishaps during the period, in which the two-wheelers (124) topped the graph.

Cars and vans, passenger buses, tankers and trucks were other vehicles involved in the accidents after bikes and scooters, according to police.

Similarly, eight carts and cycles, six tractors, and five three-wheelers (tempos) also met with the accidents.

Most of such mishaps have largely been attributed to reckless driving, over-speed and mechanical malfunctioning, according to police. Similarly, accidents have also occurred due to the passenger’s fault and overtaking incidents, identified the law enforcement body.

The statistics also revealed that most of  the accidents (45.6 per cent) occurred from noon to 6 pm whereas the quarter of the day which saw the least accidents was from midnight to 6 am.
