NC to seek clarification from Amaresh Kumar Singh for violence-provoking speech in Kailali

KATHMANDU: In the wake of violent incidents in Tikapur of Kailali and other districts in Tarai, the ruling Nepali Congress party on Wednesday decided to seek clarification from its controversial lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Singh over his speech in Kailai in which he reportedly urged the Tharu community to raise arms and resort to violence for a separate province.

It has been learned that the party's disciplinary committee would hand over a letter to Singh, seeking a prompt clarification from him over his provocative statements that he made publicly in Kailali a couple of weeks ago.

Addressing a gathering in Kailali, along with leaders Upendra Yadav and Rajendra Mahato, Singh had urged the Tharu community to raise arms.

At least eight people, including seven security personnel and a two-year-old boy, were killed by the supporters of Tharuhat movement on Monday.

The three central leaders have been widely criticised for their speeches. After the Ministry of Home Affairs provided the House with the audio clips of their speeches, the House's State Affairs Committee is studying the materials.

The Nepali Congress is under tremendous pressure from within the party to take stern action against Singh for his very speech and other activities that many claim have disrupted the communal harmony.
