5 killed as bus with Muktinath pilgrims meets with accident

KATHMANDU: At least five persons lost their life and more than two dozens were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims to Muktinath met with an accident in Mustang district on Saturday.

Around 35 pilgrims were on board the bus when it turned turtle near Kagbeni at around 12:20 pm, according to Chief District Officer Bhim Raj Pokharel.

Five persons died on the spot. They are yet to be identified.

The bus was returning to Jomsom from Muktinath this morning.

The incident site is said to be 12 km away from the district headquarters Jomsom.

After receiving information about the accident, security personnel were dispatched to the incident site for rescue operation.

Also, a Nepal Army helicopter was been flown to the incident site, according to CDO Pokharel.

The District Police Office said the bus driver is also among the injured and the cause of accident is yet to be ascertained.

But the mountainous road where the fatal accident took place today is said to be in bad condition.
