53 pc votes cast in Phase II polls till 1:30

The Joint Election Operation Centre at the Election Commission informed that around 53 per cent votes have been cast, as of 1:30 pm, in the second round of local level polls being held in Province 1, 5 and 7 today.

The elections are taking place in a peaceful manner across the provinces.

Meanwhile, One hundred and thirteen years old Pashupati Saud cast her ballot at 7:00 am today at the Bhumiraj Lower Secondary School-based polling centre at Suranaya Rural Municipality in Baitadi district.

Similarly, 105-year-old Kalashi Bhatta of Shaileshikhar Municipality in Darchula cast her vote at Bhumiraj Lower Secondary School, Tauki-based polling centre at 7:00 am.

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has informed that around 33 per cent votes have been cast in the second phase of  local level elections as of 11:30 am today.

The second round of polls is taking place to elect 15,038 representatives at 334 local units in 35 districts of Province 1, 5 and 7.

Voters have been enthusiastically exercising their franchise, said the Election Commission, adding a total of 60 per cent votes have been cast in Solukhumbu district while 50 per cent each in Bhojpur and Khotang districts.

The polling began at 7:00 am and will conclude at 5:00pm.

Representatives in one metropolitan city, seven sub-metropolitan cities, 111 municipalities and 215 rural municipalities will be elected in the elections. However, 41 representatives have already been elected unopposed.
