70 from Bihar held for boozing in Nepal

RAUTAHAT: After Indian nationals from Bihar began to enter Nepal to enjoy drinks as soon as their state government banned alcohol, the Rautahat District Police Office intensified crackdown on public houses here.

Police in the district have so far detained 70 Indian nationals from pubs of neighbouring Nepali villages in last 50 days.

Police on Saturday evening nabbed nine Indian nationals who had arrived at a village outside the Rautahat district headquarters Gaur from Sitamarhi of Bihar.

The DPO said they were later released after they signed a commitment not to enter Nepal again for drinking.

Likewise, each of them was fined Rs 1,000, according to DSP Nabil Krishna Bhandari.

Meanwhile, police also detained two pub operators from Gaur-4 claiming their business promoted untoward activities.
