77 poll candidates lose security deposit in Kaski

POKHARA: As many as 77 poll candidates have lost their security deposit for failing to secure required votes in the recent elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies in Kaski district.

A total of 95 candidates were in the fray in twin elections in the district. Of them, three were independent and remaining others were from 18 political parties.

Only, 18 candidates of the left alliance— CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre  — have got their deposit back, according to the Regional Election Office's Information Officer Tej Bahadur Gurung.

The district has three constituencies for the federal parliament election and six towards the State Assemblies. The candidates of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party(RPP), RPP-Democratic, Naya Shakti, Federal Socialist Forum, Deshbhakta Jantantrik Morcha and Janatantrik Morcha and independent candidates failed to secure 10 per cent of the valid votes, thus lost the security deposit.

The deposit amount for the federal parliament election was Rs 10,000 each while for the State Assemblies election was Rs 5,000 each.

The left alliance won in all constituencies except the Kaski- 2 (B) State Assembly seat which was clinched by the Nepali Congress.
