91pc quake-ravaged homes reconstructed

It is learnt that 91 per cent post-quake construction of private houses has been completed in East and West Nawalparasi so far.

According to sources with the District Project Implementation Unit, 872 houses were completely destroyed in the quake in both districts. Of them, 500 houses have been reconstructed so far. It is said reconstruction of the remaining houses will be completed by the end of March.

Similarly, of the 307 private homes that were damaged in the quake, reconstruction of 300 homes are under way, said the Kawaswoti-based unit, which looks after reconstruction in both the districts.

Likewise, as per data provided by the unit, 80 per cent beneficiaries have received all three instalments of the housing grant so far. The remaining beneficiaries are expected to draw the final grant instalment by mid-December.

The powerful 2015 earthquakes had laid waste to some 513 classrooms in 208 schools in both the districts. Construction of 108 classrooms in 35 schools is under way. Likewise, construction of the remaining classrooms in other schools will start later.

While the National Reconstruction Authority issued 30 million rupees for reconstruction of private homes, 15 million rupees has been spent so far. The authority has separately released 126 million rupees for the reconstruction of quake-damaged classrooms.
